Wedding Vision Board: The Board for the Day and the One for the Marriage

Twelve decisions that set the look of the day, one photo each, plus the other board: how the first year should feel. Which layout for which, and how to share it with the planner as one image.

The short version: a wedding vision board is really two boards. One for the day (venue, palette, dress, flowers, the table: a mood board with twelve photos and the date on the frame) and one for the marriage (how the first year should feel, on the love board). Both take about five minutes, free, no account, and export as one image you can send to the planner instead of 200 pins.

Most wedding boards try to be both at once and end up as a vendor catalog with a quote on top. Split them. The day board is a brief for other people; the marriage board is for the two of you, and nobody else needs to see it.

The day board: 12 slots and the date

Twelve decisions set the look of a wedding. One photo each, and the board is the brief for every vendor you talk to:

  1. Venue — the room or the garden, in the light you want it in.
  2. Palette — a photo of the swatches side by side; the board palette can match it.
  3. The dress or suit — a detail, not the whole thing: the sleeve, the lapel, the back.
  4. Flowers — the bouquet or the one arrangement you keep coming back to.
  5. The table — the setting, the runner, the candle height.
  6. The cake — or whatever replaces it.
  7. Music — a screenshot of the playlist or the band you want.
  8. Shoes — the ones you will actually stand in for eight hours.
  9. The invitation — the typeface and paper, which sets the tone for everything printed.
  10. The honeymoon — the one place, from the listing.
  11. The getting-ready room — the morning matters as much as the evening in the photos.
  12. The exit — sparklers, the car, the last song.

Type the date on the frame instead of a word. If the budget is the thing keeping you up, that slot belongs on the money board, next to the number, not on the day board.

Which layout for the day board

Four fit, depending on the wedding. Bows & pearls (the coquette preset, blush palette) for the soft, romantic one. Two of us for a couple who want their two sides of the day visible. Polaroid wall for the rustic, barn-and-string-lights one. Gallery wall for the minimalist wedding where the invitation is black on white. Each is one tap; the twelve photos stay the same.

The same photos you saved on Pinterest are the raw material; how to make a mood board from Pinterest covers getting them out (long-press, save), and the Pinterest post explains why the board beats the pin folder.

The marriage board: the other twelve slots

The week after the wedding, make the second one, together. The love board opens with twelve labeled slots (A partner, Date nights, Deep talks, Trust, Adventure, Small things, Family, Friends, Self-love, Patience, Home, Grow) and the word LOVE on the frame. Fill it on one phone, argue about the middle, and set it as both lock screens.

This is the board that is about the first year, not the first day: the flat you want, the trip, the standing Thursday dinner, the thing you each keep doing on your own. Examples of it filled in, for singles, couples and everything between, are in love vision board examples.

Share it as one image

Download the PNG and send it to the planner, the florist and the bridal party. One image with twelve photos and the date reads in ten seconds; a shared Pinterest board with 200 pins reads never. The free download is 840×1050 with a small watermark, which is fine for a group chat; the HD export is 2400×3000, an exact 8×10 at 300 dpi, if you want it framed at the getting-ready table.

Nothing you add is uploaded anywhere. The photos stay in your browser, which matters when the board has the dress in it and the person you are marrying has your phone half the time.

After the wedding

The day board retires once the day is over. The thing that replaces it is the couple collage: nine photos of the relationship you already have, both names on the frame, and the first-anniversary gift sorted a year early.

Questions people actually ask

What should a wedding vision board include?

The twelve decisions that set the look: venue, palette, dress or suit detail, flowers, the table, cake, music, shoes, invitation, honeymoon, the getting-ready room, the exit. One photo each, the date on the frame, and you have the brief for every vendor.

Is a wedding vision board the same as a wedding mood board?

For the day, yes: colours, textures, a look. The vision board is the other one, for the marriage: date nights, trust, the home, the trip. Make the mood board for the planner and the vision board for the two of you.

Can I share it with my planner or bridesmaids?

Yes, as one image. Download the PNG and send it; it is far easier to read than a shared Pinterest board with 200 pins, and nothing you add is uploaded anywhere.
